1) AIM NITI Aayog, UNDP India Jointly Launch Youth Co: Lab
- Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India on Friday launched Youth Co: Lab which aims at accelerating social entrepreneurship and innovation in young India.
- To mark the launch, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between AIM, NITI Aayog and UNDP India.
- Through Youth Co: Lab, young entrepreneurs and innovators will get a chance to connect with governments, mentors, incubators and investors, who will help equip them with entrepreneurial skills.
- AIM and UNDP, as part of UNSDF signed between NITI Aayog and UN India, are collaborating to spread awareness about different issues pertaining to youth, the future of work and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through Youth Co: Lab.
About Youth Co:Lab:
Co-created in 2017 by UNDP and the Citi Foundation, and operational in 25 countries across the Asia Pacific region, the Youth Co: Lab initiative aims to create an enabling ecosystem to promote youth leadership, innovation, and social entrepreneurship.
About Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)
AIM including Self-Employment and Talent Utilisation (SETU) is the Government of India’s endeavor to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. Its objective is to serve as a platform for the promotion of world-class innovation hubs, grand challenges, start-up businesses, and other self-employment activities, particularly in technology-driven areas.
2) Goa Maritime Conclave 2019 Inaugurated
The Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC)-2019 was inaugurated by the National Security Advisor, Shri Ajit Kumar Doval, at Goa on 4th October 2019. Inaugurating the conclave, which was conducted by the Naval War College
The theme for the conclave is “Common Maritime Priorities in IOR (the Indian Ocean Rim) and need for Regional Maritime Strategy”.
The sub-theme for the first session was “Opportunities and Challenges in IOR”
3) India - Bangladesh Business forum meets in New Delhi
- Two Government to Business (G2B) MoUs were signed between Startup Bangladesh and Tech Mahindra and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority and Adani Ports and SEZs.
- Four Border Haats, two each in Tripura (Srinagar and Kamalasagar) and Meghalaya (Kalaichar and Balat), have been established for the benefit of communities living along with the border areas of both countries. Ten additional Border Haats on the India-Bangladesh border are under implementation.
- India and Bangladesh are members of various regional trade agreements including the Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA), SAARC Preferential Trade Agreement (SAPTA) and the Agreement on South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) which govern the tariff regimes for trade.
- Under SAFTA, India has granted duty-free quota-free access to Bangladesh on all items except alcohol and tobacco.
- Various infrastructure projects between India and Bangladesh such as the Agartala- Akhaura rail link, dredging of inland waterways, India Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, and High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in the areas of education, health, water, culture, urban development, disaster management, and community welfare.
4) North Korea test-fired Pukguksong-3, a new type of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) on 2 October
North Korea successfully test-fired Pukguksong-3, a new type of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) on 2 October. State-run Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said that the new-type ballistic missile was fired in a vertical mode in the waters of the eastern city of Wonsan.
5) World Economic Forum's 33rd India Economic Summit
The World Economic Forum's 33rd India Economic Summit is to be held from 3-4 October in New Delhi, India. The theme of the WEF's 33rd India Economic Summit is Innovating for India: Strengthening South Asia, Impacting the World.
6) Chinese DF-41 - the most powerful intercontinental-range ballistic missile on the Earth
On the 70th National Day of China which was observed on October 1, 2019, it launched DF-41 (Dongfeng-41) the most powerful intercontinental-range ballistic missile on the planet during the National Day parade at Chang'an Avenue in Beijing.
7) AIIMS, JIPMER to come under NEET
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said AIIMS and JIPMER would be included under the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) from 2020 with the government keen on implementing the National Medical Commission (NMC)-2019 at a fast pace.
