1) Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh launches Navy's first new stealth frigate, INS ‘Nilgiri’
The launch of INS ‘Nilgiri’, the first of the Navy's seven new stealth frigates, at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai.
INS Nilgiri is the first ship of Project17A. Project 17A frigates are a design derivative of the Shivalik class stealth frigates with much more advanced stealth features and indigenous weapons and sensors. These frigates are being built using integrated construction methodology. The P17A frigates incorporate new design concepts for improved survivability, sea keeping, stealth and ship maneuverability.
2) Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh commissions indigenously built submarine INS Khanderi
- The name Khanderi is inspired by the dreaded ‘Sword Tooth Fish’ a deadly fish known to hunt whilst swimming close to the bottom of the ocean. Khanderi is also the name of an island fort built by great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
- INS Khanderi is the second of Kalvari Class diesel-electric attack submarines of the Indian Navy. It has been built in India to the French Scorpene design and is the second submarine of the Project-75. Built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, INS Khanderi is a lethal addition to Navy’s conventional submarine arsenal and is designed for silent and stealthy sub-surface operations.
- INS Khanderi is the follow-on to INS Kalvari, which was the first of the French origin Scorpene-class submarines being indigenously constructed in India and commissioned by the Prime Minister in 2017.

4) Thailand and India have signed agreements to boost the trade for Rs 2,400 crores
Thailand and India have signed agreements for Rs 2,400 crores Aim: To boost trade ties between the two countries The pacts were across segments including rubber, construction material, food and beverages, logistics. The breakup of the agreements, Laksana Visit on his first visit to India said the agreements signed in Mumbai total 4.45 billion Thai baht (about Rs 900 crore) while in Chennai, it was 7.623 billion Thai baht (about Rs 1,500 crore).
5) Infosys has received the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the 'Climate Neutral Now' category
IT major Infosys has received the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the 'Climate Neutral Now' category. Infosys is the only corporate from India to earn recognition for its efforts to combat climate change. The announcement of the winners was made after the UN Climate Summit in New York convened by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The award will be presented to Infosys at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Santiago, Chile (December 2019).
6) India and Sweden lead the new Leadership Group for Industry Transition that was launched at the summit to guide the world's heaviest greenhouse gas emitting industries towards a low-carbon economy.

7) Pilot Project for ushering in 'Industry 4.0' in the country, is launched for implementation at the Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Raebareli

The Ministry of Railways and Department of Science & Technology have joined hands in partnership with IIT Kanpur for taking up a unique project on ‘Industry 4.0’ by launching a Pilot Project for implementation at Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli.
What is Industry 4.0?
‘Industry 4.0’ commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution, is a name given to the current trend of automation, interconnectivity and data exchange in manufacturing technologies to increase productivity. Industry 4.0 is a complex Cyber-Physical Systems that synergizes production with digital technologies, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data & Analytics, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing.
8) India ranks 44 in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2019.
India was ranked 44th in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2019 produced by the IMD World Competitiveness Center. The US was ranked as the world's most digitally competitive economy, followed by Singapore in second place. The center measured the capacity and readiness of 63 nations to adopt and explore digital technologies as a key driver for economic transformation in business, government and wider society. To evaluate an economy, WDCR examines 3 factors: Knowledge: the capacity to understand and learn the new technologies; technology: the competence to develop new digital innovations; and future-readiness: the preparedness for the coming developments.
9) Harjit Singh Arora has been appointed as the Vice Chief of Indian Air Force
Air Marshal HS Arora has been appointed as the Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force. He will succeed Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria who will take over as the Chief of Air Staff. Air Marshal Arora is currently heading the Gandhinagar headquartered South Western Air Command of the Air Force. He was also deputed as Defence Attache at the Embassy of India, Bangkok, Thailand from 2006 to 2009. In another re-shuffle, Air Marshal B Suresh has been appointed as Western Air Commander of the Air Force, in New Delhi. Suresh will succeed Kargil war hero Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar.
10) Obesity and undernutrition coexist, finds study
- The Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and UNICEF between February 2016 and October 2018 is the first study undertaken to measure malnutrition, including micronutrient deficiencies through biochemical measures such as blood and urine samples, anthropometric data as well as details of noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol and kidney function in children and adolescents.
- Nearly 10% of children in the age group of 5-9 years and adolescents in the age group of 10-19 years are prediabetic, 5% are overweight and another 5% suffer from blood pressure.
11) Lanka’s ex-Army chief to run for President
Former Army commander of Sri Lanka Mahesh Senanayake announced that he would contest the November 16 presidential election, pledging legal reform and a “new political” culture for the country. General Senanayake is being fielded by the National People’s Movement (NPM), a
collective of islandwide civil society organizations that converged in late 2018, with the aim of offering a political alternative. In the presidential race, General Senanayake will face another military officer, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the wartime Defence Secretary contesting on a ticket from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Deputy Leader and Minister Sajith Premadasa of the ruling United National Party (UNP), and Leader of the leftist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna ( JVP), Anura Dissanayake
