    1) 5th India International Science Festival to be held in Kolkata from 5th to 8th November 2019.

The Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan announced
    IISF 2019 will play a crucial role in promoting love and passion for science among students by bringing science outside the lab.
    The theme for this year’s festival is RISEN India – Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation.

    About IISF 2019

    India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019, an annual event organized jointly by science & technology- related Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and Vijnana Bharati (Vibha), 2019. IISF is a festival to celebrate the achievements of India’s scientific and technological advancements with students, innovators, craftsmen, farmers, scientists and technocrats from India and abroad.

Over 240 international delegates from 51 countries and 160 exhibitors from across the country are taking in the part in the second edition of ITM.

    About FAITH

    FAITH is the apex organization of important trade and hospitality associations of the country and will drive the event, with support of the Ministry of Tourism, to position the tourism destinations and products of the country in international source markets.  This is the second edition of the Mart being organized on lines of major international travel marts held annually in countries across the world. The Mart will provide a platform at the national level for trade and hospitality service providers in the country to interact and conduct business with their counterparts from overseas.

    3) President Shri Ram Nath Kovind inaugurates 6th India Water Week – 2019

    • In this event, India will share the best practices and also learn from experiences of others on all important issues relating to water, as such discussions help in fine-tuning policies and strategies for optimal utilization of this valuable resource
    • 14 countries Join hands with India on water-related issues like Israel, Canada, Japan, Germany, and the UK in this regard.
    • The theme of this year’s India Water week inaugurated by President Shri Ram Nath Kovind is “Water cooperation: Coping with 21st Century Challenges”.

    About India Water Week

    • Ministry of Jal Shakti has been organizing India Water Week since 2012 as an international event to focus on water-related issues. Five editions of India Water Week have been organized so far.
    • Many reputed National and International Organizations, Research Institutes, Educational Institutions and NGOs from water resources, agriculture, power sectors, etc. are participating in the event to share their knowledge and experience in the sector.

    4) Measures undertaken to boost coal production may eliminate coal imports by 2023

    • The Union Minister for Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi said that the Government is undertaking measures to ramp up the domestic coal production from the current level of 730 MT to 1149 MT by 2023 thereby eliminating the coal import except for the limited un-substitutable import.
    • Currently, coal occupies a 55% share in primary energy supply and about 75% in electricity generation.
    • The Government is opening new mines, expanding the capacity of existing mines and creating new evacuation infrastructure to ramp up domestic coal production.
    • CIL alone is poised to commission 11 new coking coal washeries in a phased manner to meet the total demand of washed domestic coking coal of the steel sector.

    5) Shri Narendra Singh Tomar launches two agriculture-related Mobile Apps

    Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare launched two mobile Apps – ‘CHC Farm Machinery and Krishi Kisan App for Geo Tagging’ in New Delhi

    Through the CHC Farm Machinery App, farmers can select and order the required machinery at the rates feasible for them from the Custom Hiring Centers located in the radius of 50 Kms. More than 40,000 custom hiring service centers have registered on this mobile app for renting over 1,20,000 agricultural types of machinery & equipment.

     Krishi Kisan App for Geo Tagging

    The Krishi Kisan App will provide farmers the information on the best demonstration of high-yielding crops and seeds in their nearby area.
    The App will also help in geo-tagging and geo-fencing of crops and give weather forecast messages to farmers.

    6) DoNER Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurates Cane and Bamboo Technology Park at Burnihat, Assam

    About Cane and Bamboo Technology Park

    • The Bamboo Technology Park has been developed to exclusively deal with Bamboo & Cane, catering to the needs of the industries, entrepreneurs, designers, craftspersons, rural people, teachers, policymakers, technicians, and technologists.
    • The Centre will be identifying and transferring appropriate manufacturing techniques, providing technical assistance, rendering specific services such as laboratory testing and quality assurance.
    • This will itself promote the tangible benefits and will focus for generating village-level cluster and micro-processing units, encouraging and mobilizing SHGs, NGOs to adopt to bamboo culture, attract investment in the bamboo sector in both medium and small sector, create awareness generation, design innovation, new product development, technology infusion and adaptation to the requirement of this country.

    7) President of India presents National Service Scheme Awards

    Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Tuesday that the Supreme Court ruling against him had hindered his attempt to get a Brexit deal but that as the law currently stood, the United Kingdom would leave the European Union on October 31. As the law currently stands, the U.K. leaves the EU on October 31st come what may but the exciting thing for us now is to get a good deal,” Mr. Johnson told reporters in New York. “And that is what we are working on. And to be honest, it is not made much easier by this kind of stuff in Parliament or in the courts,” he said. “As the law stands, we leave on October 31 and I am hopeful that we will get a deal and I think what the people want is to see parliamentarians coming together working in the national interest to get this thing done and that is what we are going to do,” he added. “We should have an election,” he said in brief comments to reporters as he left a meeting here

    9) Saudi Arabia has won membership in IAEA Board for two years 2019-2021

    Saudi Arabia has won a membership in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for two years 2019-2021. The election was held in the 63rd session of the IAEA General Conference held in Vienna, Austria. The board is responsible for making most of the policy of the IAEA and makes recommendations to the General Conference on IAEA activities.

    10) The 2019 C40 World Mayors Summit to be held in Copenhagen

    The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will attend the 2019 C40 World Mayors Summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark to speak on his government's experience in lowering pollution, including the Odd-Even scheme, and other issues. He will join leaders of several cities such as New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, and Berlin to deliberate on the climate crisis impacting the world at the summit from October 9-12.

    16) Daniil Medvedev won St Petersburg Open title

    Daniil Medvedev won a sixth career title as he defeated Borna Coric 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the St Petersburg Open, Russia. World number four Medvedev, who since July has reached five finals in as many tournaments, won his third title of the year and sixth of his career.
