1) National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), Conferred The Prestigious SKOCH Governance Gold Award

Deendayan Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), a flagship mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been conferred the prestigious SKOCH Governance Gold Award for its Portal for Affordable Credit and Interest Subvention Access (PAiSA)in a function held at the Constitution Club of India

  • What is PAiSA?
  • Launched in November 2018, PAiSA is a centralized IT platform that simplifies and streamlines the release of interest subvention under the Mission. It offers end to end online solutions for processing, payment, monitoring, and tracking of interest subvention claims from banks monthly. Claims for subvention are uploaded by banks through their CBS (Core Banking Solution) in respect of the beneficiaries of the Self Employment Programme, which are verified and approved by the ULB and State concerned. The approved claim amount gets credited directly to the beneficiary’s loan account through DBT mode.SMS is also sent to the beneficiary’s mobile number intimating the credit of the subvention amount. The portal has been designed and developed through the Allahabad Bank. As of now, 28 States/UTs and 74 Banks including 21 Public Sector, 18 Private and 35 Regional Rural Banks have been on-boarded on the portal. Till now approximately 1.50 lakh beneficiaries have been paid Rs. 27 Cr (approx.) as interest subvention through PAiSA.


2) PM to present Yoga Awards and release 12 AYUSH Commemorative Postal Stamps tomorrow, also launch 10 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres 

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will present Yoga awards to the winners of PM’s Award for Outstanding Contribution for Promotion and Development of Yoga, which were announced during the International Day of Yoga, 2019 at Ranchi, along with the two winners of the previous year in an event being organized by the Ministry of AYUSH tomorrow at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • The Prime Minister would also release 12 commemorative postal stamps to honor eminent scholars, Practitioners and great Master Healers of AYUSH Systems. These commemorative postal stamps highlight the great work and acknowledge the achievements of the great Master Healers of AYUSH Systems.
  • The  Prime Minister will also launch 10 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres (AYUSH HWCs) located in the state of  Haryana and are in line with the Ministry of AYUSH’s commitment to making 12,500 AHWCs functional in next three years. To provide comprehensive primary healthcare, AYUSH components have been integrated into Health and Wellness Centres under Ayushman Bharat. These Centres will be complementing the National Health Policy, 2017 that insisted upon integration and mainstreaming of AYUSH services in the conventional health care delivery system.

3) Ministry of Civil Aviation launches Aviation Jobs Portal 

  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Civil Aviation, Housing & Urban Affairs and Minister of State for Commerce & Industry,  launched an Aviation Jobs Portal for Aspirants and prospective Employers 
  • The portal aims to provide a common platform for job seekers to register their job interests across various civil aviation sub-sectors. Prospective Employers, who have completed their KYC under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs MCA-21 database would be eligible to register themselves on the portal

4) Center releases Rs. 47,436 crores for afforestation to various states.

  • Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar, today handed over Rs.47,436 crores of CAMPA funds to various states, in presence of Minister of State, MoEF&CC, Shri Babul Supriyo. 
  • CAMPA funds cannot be used for payment of salary, travel allowances, medical expenses, etc.
  • Important activities on which the fund will be utilized will be for the Compensatory Afforestation, Catchment Area Treatment, Wildlife Management, Assisted Natural Regeneration, Forest Fire Prevention and Control Operations, Soil and Moisture Conservation Works in the forest, Improvement of Wildlife Habitat, Management of Biological Diversity and Biological Resources, Research in Forestry and Monitoring of CAMPA works, etc.

  • What is CAMPA?
  • Supreme Court of India ordered for establishment of Compensatory Afforestation Fund and Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) in 2001under-utilisation of the money collected towards compensatory afforestation regarding State
  • In 2006, separate bank accounts were opened in which the compensatory levies were deposited and Adhoc CAMPA was established for the management of Compensatory afforestation fund.  In 2009, Hon’ble Supreme Court permitted the release of Rs.1000 crore every year to States/UTs for compensatory afforestation and other activities.  In 2014, Hon’ble Supreme Court permitted the release of 10% of the total deposit of states in the fund from interest accrued on the deposits.

5) India-UK workshop on Science for Disaster and Emergency Risk Management

  • A two days India-UK workshop on Science for Disaster and Emergency Risk Management was inaugurated today in Delhi by Dr. P. K. Mishra, Additional PS to the PM. The key objective of the workshop is to share the Indian and UK advise mechanisms and practices for using science and technology in the management of emergencies and disasters.
  • The interactions will focus on presenting both countries' respective scientific and technological apparatus for mitigating disasters proactively with the aim to facilitate the adoption of best practices by identifying new opportunities and building upon the existing Indo-UK collaborations on science and technology. 
  • The event is organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, GoI along with the National Disaster Management Authority in partnership with the UK Governments Office of Science. Prof. Robin Grimes former Chief Science Adviser of the Foreign & Commonwealth office who is leading the 6 member UK delegation remarked that this workshop can help to provide a robust mechanism for evidence-based science advice to the respective governments based on sharing complementary scientific and technological strengths and strategies.  Kamal Kishore, Member NDMA informed that yesterday the Indian Cabinet has approved the launch of a Rs 480 crores global Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure which will provide an excellent platform to collaborate with the UK and other countries. 

6) President confers National Sports Awards 2019 and National Adventure Awards 2018

  • The President of India Shri Ram NathKovind conferred National Sports Awards 2019and National Adventure Awards, 2018 in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri KirenRijiju was among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

  • MAULANA ABUL KALAM AZAD (MAKA) TROPHY, 2019 has been conferred on Punjab University, Chandigarh.
  • Apart from a medal and a citation, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardees have received a cash prize of Rs. 7.5 lakh. Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand Awardees received statuettes, certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh each. A trophy and citation have been given to the entity in the Rashtriya Khel ProtsahanPuruskar, 2019. Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awardees have received a statuette, certificates and cash award of Rs. 5 lakh each. Punjab University which is an overall top performing university in inter-university tournaments has been given MAKA Trophy, award money of Rs. 15 lakh and certificate.

7) Prime Minister launches nation-wide Fit India Movement

  • Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today launched the Fit India Movement, on the occasion of National Sports Day, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, in the presence of thousands of people from all walks of life. The Prime Minister said that ‘Fit India Movement’ should become a national goal. In an effort to inspire the nation, the Prime Minister said that Fit India Movement may have been started by the government but it is the people who have to take the lead and make it a success.
