Recently USA Department of Defence issued a report on the INDO-PACIFIC Strategy report above is the frontal cover of the report. They're issuing this report since 2017. The main point here to discuss is the term which USA and their President Donald Trump using it the INDO-PACIFIC region, not only US government many other world famous leader like Shinzō Abe Prime minister of Japan, Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India using this terminology very frequently recently in the JAI (Japan, America, India) meeting which occurred during the G20 summit held in Osaka, Japan from 28th-29th June. Three countries leader had a meeting and many a times they use the word INDO-PACIFIC Region.

WHY ARE THEY USING THE TERM INDO-PACIFIC?
The term is used because of Geo-Political reason. Earlier we use to give term to that region was ASIA-PACIFIC when we use this term the influence of China is shown directly in the region and it shows how good hold they have on that region. USA on the other hand don’t want to Chinese influence on that region as in their defence report they have clearly stated that  China’s economic, political, and military rise is one of the defining elements of the 21st century. Today, the Indo-Pacific increasingly is confronted with a more confident and assertive China that is willing to accept friction in the pursuit of a more expansive set of political, economic, and security interests. Also they mentioned that China is using economic inducements and penalties, influence operations, and implied military threats to persuade other states to comply with its agenda. Although trade has benefitted both China and its trade partners, Chinese use of espionage and theft for economic advantage, as well as diversion of acquired technology to the military, remains a significant source of economic and national security risk to all of China’s trading partners. Seeing all this US government and president Donald Trump are promoting the use of INDO-PACIFIC Region rather than ASIA-PACIFIC. As China has placed there navy in that region and have bought major dominance in that region USA wants to open the region for free trade purpose so that many countries can take benefit from it and a prosperous  trade can happen between countries. USA also blame the Communist party of China to not opening there market for foreign traders.

INDIA BENEFIT TO IT

This can be a free promotion of India in terms of geo-politics as Trump is promoting it and many other also using this terminology which show the Indian influence in this region because of Indian ocean and pacific ocean are meeting here this also called as INDO-PACIFIC region

WHERE IS THE REGION OF INDO-PACIFIC LOCATED?

INDO-PACIFIC REGION

This the INDO-PACIFIC region and all the countries from Gulf to Australia are INDO-PACIFIC countries. USA also term them INDO-PACIFIC countries part as there major trade and allies are in INDO-PACIFIC region. Russia is also INDO-PACIFIC country

India on INDO-PACIFIC

India also use the term INDO-PACIFIC but not like USA who use it to put down the influence of China in that region. In June 2018 PM Narendra Modi addressed on INDO-PACIFIC region that “the Indo-Pacific is a natural region. It is also home to a vast array of global opportunities and challenges. I am increasingly convinced with each passing day that the destinies of those of us who live in the region are linked. Today, we are being called to rise above divisions and competition to work together.

The ten countries of South East Asia connect the two great oceans in both the geographical and civilizational sense. Inclusiveness, openness and ASEAN centrality and unity, therefore, lie at the heart of the new Indo-Pacific. India does not see the Indo-Pacific Region as a strategy or as a club of limited members.

Nor as a grouping that seeks to dominate. And by no means do we consider it as directed against any country. A geographical definition, as such, cannot be. India's vision for the Indo-Pacific Region is, therefore, a positive one. And, it has many elements.” Here it shows the neutral behaviour of India over this terminology.

Origin of INDO-PACIFIC

The German geo-politician Karl Haushofer first used it in the 1920s in the academic work called “Indopazifischen Raum” which means Indo pacific realm in Germany
